Nona Sorden, 82, of Windsor, Missouri, died Saturday evening, December 2, 2017, at Windsor Healthcare & Rehabilitation.
She was born December 8, 1934, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of John Henry Daugherty and Nona Etta (Need) Daugherty. On October 17, 1953 she married Gene Edward Sorden at the First Baptist Church in Higginsville, Mo.
Shortly after their marriage, Gene and Nona moved to Windsor in October of 1955, where they made their lifetime home. She worked for almost 30 years for the International Shoe Factory. She then worked for Central Missouri State University (now University of Central Missouri) as a custodian for several years. Until retirement, she worked as a cashier at Raymond’s Restaurant in Windsor. She enjoyed watching soap operas on TV, reading, and was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, Windsor.
In addition to her husband Gene of the home, survivors include a son, Terry Sorden (Sharon), Clinton, Mo.; 2 daughters, Winona Hunter (Terry), Windsor, Mo., and Nancy Anders (Lynny), Pleasant Hill, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Mae Marie, Julie, Nikki, Melody, TJ, Zachary, Marie-Etta, Clint, Willie and Kevin; several great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters-in-law, Ruth Hargis, Warrensburg, Mo.; and Irene Daugherty, Concordia, Mo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Stubb and Johnny Daugherty, and a sister, Mary Lou Johnson.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2017, at the First Baptist Church, Windsor, with Pastor Pete Hill officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family suggests contributions to the Activity Fund of Windsor Healthcare & Rehabilitation in care of the funeral home.
