Obituary of Maxine Rains

Maxine Rains, 93, of Windsor, Missouri, died early Sunday afternoon, March 5, 2017 at Windsor Healthcare & Rehabilitation.

She was born August 29, 1923, in Merriam, Kansas, the daughter of Pines Shelton Douglas, Sr. and Agnes Delia (Grogan) Douglas. On June 21, 1946, she married Harry Ervin Rains at the First Christian Church, Windsor, and he preceded her in death on April 3, 2003.

Maxine’s family moved to Windsor from Kansas when she was two years old. She graduated from Windsor High School and went to work at the former Windsor International Shoe Factory as a secretary, retiring in the mid 1980’s. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Windsor. Along with her husband, she volunteered at the church as custodian for a number of years. They also delivered Meals on Wheels together to area Windsor residents for several years. She enjoyed playing games, especially card games, and working puzzle books. She spent many hours playing games with friends at the Senior Center.

Survivors included 3 nieces and a nephew, Donna Mathews (Mike), Janet Naylor, Randy Naylor (Kim), all of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Carol Medlin (Mike), Kansas City, Mo.; 6 great-nieces and 1 great-nephew; and 2 great-great-nieces and 5 great-great-nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Pan Douglas, Pate Douglas and Winnie Naylor; a brother, Pines Shelton Douglas, Jr.; a nephew, Doug Naylor; and a brother-in-law, Vernon Naylor.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Rev. David Mills officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. Friends may call Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
