Edna Fern Gursick, 83, of Windsor, Missouri, died Tuesday afternoon, September 18, 2018, at her home in Windsor.
She was born June 22, 1935, in Morgan County, Mo., near Stover, the daughter of Edward William Keeton and Eula Faye (Simmons) Keeton.
She was a classically trained seamstress and made clothing for Nelly Don. She also worked as a beautician and as a caregiver for Twin Lakes Hospice. In 1984, she opened her home and established Fern’s Care Center to care for senior adults and continued this work for a number of years. She enjoyed crafting items for charity organizations and was especially passionate about support for Children’s Mercy Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Taking care of those in need was part of her daily life. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers and cooking and baking for others. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Gloria Dority, Windsor, Mo.; and Pam Swearngin (Richard), Lincoln, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Sara Gursick, Windsor, Mo.; 4 grandsons, Michael Dority, Windsor, Mo., Larry Nickerson, Kansas City, Kansas, Joseph Swearngin, Santa Barbara, California, and Nicholas Gursick, Windsor, Mo.; 3 great-grandchildren, Jamie Dority, and Rome and Rhys Nickerson; a great-great-grandson, Luke; 2 brothers, William Keeton, Tenaska, Washington, and Larry Keeton, Warsaw, Mo.; a sister, Annie Keeton, Springfield, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, John Gursick, on the morning of her passing; and a sister, Evelyn Woods.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor, with Chaplain Bobby Lewis officiating. The family suggests contributions to Twin Lakes Hospice and can be left in care of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor.
