Bertha Bothwell Chaney, 86, of Windsor, Missouri, died Tuesday evening, July 26, 2022, at her home in Windsor. She was born June 9, 1936, in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Wilbur Kenneth Allison and Bernice Irene (Guenther) Allison. On November 25, 1953, she married Glen M. Bothwell in Liberty, Illinois. They enjoyed almost 57 years of marriage and were the parents of 5 children, Daniel, Donna, Dana, Thomas, and Virginia. Glen preceded her in death on April 23, 2010. On July 21, 2018, she married Carl Lee “Pops” Chaney at Windsor Assembly of God and he preceded her in death on October 29, 2020. Glen and Bertha started their married life in Glen’s home state of Colorado. After a short time, they moved to Missouri to the Ava area where they were dairy farmers for 6 years. After their children were older, Bertha worked as a supervisor at Chastain’s Nursing Home in Ava. She then was a greeter at Walmart, first in Ava and then in Sedalia, Mo., for 12 years before retirement. Bertha enjoyed sewing, cooking, games, and word search puzzles but her favorite pastime was reading, a pastime which she leaves as a legacy in her children and grandchildren. Laughter, teasing, and sharing her ornery sense of humor made for many fun family moments and memories throughout the years. She was an active member of the Windsor Assembly of God. Survivors include 2 sons, Daniel Bothwell, Carthage, Mo., and Thomas Bothwell (Cindy), Centerview, Mo.; 3 daughters, Donna Powers, Dana Bishop; and Virginia Bothwell, all of Windsor, Mo.; 6 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a step-son, Darrell Chaney, Aurora, Mo., a step-daughter, Susan Chaney, Marionville, Mo.; and several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a beloved caregiver, Beverly Vallero. In addition to her husband Glen and husband Carl, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law Mitzi Bothwell; a sister, Hazel Allison; and a brother Kenneth Lawrence Allison. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Rev. Virginia Bothwell officiating and Rev. Bob Miller and Rev. Kevin Vanderlann assisting. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to Windsor Assembly of God or the Henry County Public Library (Lenora Blackmore branch in Windsor) in care of the funeral home.
