Obituary of Brett VanSlyke
Brett VanSlyke, 47, of Windsor, Missouri, died Sunday evening, September 30, 2018, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo.
He was born March 22, 1971, in Windsor, Mo., the son of Billie Jean (Williams) VanSlyke. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1989 and then attended State Fair Community College, obtaining an Associate Degree. He then earned a Bachelors Degree in Sociology and Business from Missouri Southern University in Joplin in 1994.
Brett worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue in Jefferson City for 10 years. After moving back to Windsor in 2006, he looked forward to weekends watching his favorite teams and playing Fantasy Football and Baseball. A life-long sports enthusiast, he particularly liked the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and the Mizzou Tigers. He was a member of the Calhoun United Methodist Church, Calhoun, Mo. Brett faced many challenges in life. But with the support of his Mother, family, and church family, he never failed to give his best effort and was an inspiration to those around him.
Survivors include his mother, Billie VanSlyke of the home in Windsor; an uncle, Larry Williams (Patty), Lee’s Summit, Mo.; an aunt, Penny Eckhoff (Dale), Windsor, Mo.; 4 cousins Lindsay Shannon, Morgan Hughes, Tyler Eckhoff, and Kaitlin Goodwin; several second-cousins; and several special friends who were always there for Brett, they know who they are. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the Calhoun United Methodist Church with Pastor Margie Briggs officiating. A memorial fund has been established to help with funeral expenses and contributions may be made in care of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor.
