Obituary of Raymond Whitworth

Raymond Nelson Whitworth, 89, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Thursday afternoon, March 14, 2019, at the Country Club Care Center, Warrensburg, Mo.

He was born May 14, 1929, near Green Ridge, Mo., the eldest son of William Ray and Flossie May (Ellis) Whitworth. He married Shirley Mae Johnson on September 23, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo. He was an employee of Armco Steel Corp. in Kansas City for 30 years, retiring in 1981.

They lived in the Kansas City area until 1968 when they moved to a farm near Warrensburg, Mo. In 1989, they moved to Clinton, Mo., and resided there for 26 years before moving back to Warrensburg. While in Clinton, he enjoyed fishing at Truman Lake and visiting friends at Bucksaw Marina. He also enjoyed working in his shop and gardening.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 131 in Warrensburg.

In addition to his wife Shirley of the home, survivors include 3 children, Vicki Whitworth, Millbrook, AL; Kevin Whitworth (Diana), Higginsville, Mo.; and Joy Lakey (Ronnie), Warrensburg, Mo.; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 6 sisters, Rosalie Waller, Independence, Mo.; Phyllis Kays, Deepwater, Mo.; Joyce Austin, Grain Valley, Mo.; Marietta Rager, Kearney, Mo.; Linda Whitworth, Windsor, Mo.; and Donna Moore, Deepwater, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Sue Powell in 1976, his father in 1987, a brother, Billy Dale Whitworth in 1990; his mother in 2008, and a sister, Veda Galloway in 2010.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2019, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Rev. Clif Dudley officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
