Obituary of Robert "Bob" Kays

Robert “Bob” Kays, 96, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, formerly of Claremore, Oklahoma, died Thursday afternoon, January 2, 2020, at John Knox Village, Lee’s Summit, Mo. He was born December 30, 1923, in Nevada, Mo., the son of Joseph Luther Kays and Gertrude Bell (Madole) Kays. On July 24, 1948, in Kansas City, Mo., he married Doris Elaine Hanger and she preceded him in death on February 14, 1978. Bob served in the United States Army and then worked most of his career as a right-of-way agent. He liked to stay busy and was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity during his 80’s and had worked up until turning 93 years old. He enjoyed fishing and occasionally hunting. He was a long-time member of the Leeton Christian Church, Leeton, Mo. Survivors include 2 daughters, Jeannie Beldin (Larry), Peoria, Arizona; and Roberta Preston (Neil), Lee’s Summit, Mo.; 5 grandchildren, Shawn Beldin (Corrie), Jenée Gremel (Chad), Matthew Gatschet (Shannon), Tricia Mackey (Jon), and Whitney Preston; 8 great-grandchildren, Cade, Jax, and Zeke Gremel, Steven, Daniel, and Hartley Gatschet, and Mason and Landon Mackey; a sister-in-law, Bernice Kays, Claremore, Ok.; and much loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his wife Doris, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, J. L. Kays Jr. and James Kays; and a sister, Betty Taylor. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2020, at the Mineral Creek Cemetery, Leeton, Mo., with Pastor Wayne Lowry officiating. The family suggests contributions to the Mineral Creek Cemetery and may be left in care of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor.
