Obituary of Clyde Helphrey

Clyde H. Helphrey, 84, of Centralia, Mo., formerly of Windsor, Mo., and Warsaw, Mo., died Sunday evening, January 26, 2020, at his home in Centralia. He was born December 2 1935, in Castle Rock, Colorado, the son of Clyde Homer Helphrey Sr. and Bessie Pauline (Reed) Helphrey. On August 9, 1958, at the First Baptist Church in Warsaw, Mo., he married Virginia Fay Ferguson and she survives of the home. Clyde served in the United States Army for over 21 years as a truck master. His service included both the Korean Conflict and serving two tours during the Vietnam War. After retirement from the military, he drove a truck for MFA in Windsor for 2 years and then worked on the Alaskan pipeline for one summer. He then worked for Boeing at Whiteman Air Force Base and then in Wichita, Kansas for 16 years. He was a member of Sturgeon Baptist Church in Sturgeon, Mo., and had also attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Warsaw. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the VFW Post 15026 Kansas City, Mo. In addition to his wife Virginia, survivors include 2 sons, John E. Helphrey (Linda), Yukon, Oklahoma; Lynn H. Helphrey (Ruby), Suffolk, Virginia; 2 daughters, Melodie A. Benton (Randy), Spring Hill, Florida; and Carman J. Rowan, Centralia, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Hunton, Green Ridge, Mo.; a half-brother, Clyde Leslie Helphrey, Shawnee, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, and 2 great-grandsons. No services are planned at this time. Burial will take place in the Laurel Oak Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests contributions to the Laurel Oak Cemetery and may be left in care of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor.
