Lisa,
I had the pleasure of meeting Darrell about 10+ years ago when I worked for Ed Stewart at UMB Bank in Windsor. One day at the bank during a conversation with him, he was talking about his daughter, Lisa Parks. I confirmed asking, you mean Lisa Parks from Private Eyes Optical in Warrensburg. He said yes and I shared with him you were my Optometrist when we were transferred to WAFB and lived in Warrensburg. This was our first connection and we were fast friends afterwards.
Darrell walked into the bank one day and swatted me on the arm with the bank bag from the Senior Center and said to me, "Get to work . . . please!" and then just grinned from ear to ear. When I gave the bank bag back to your Dad I swatted him on the arm with the bag and told him, "Be on your way . . . Sir!" We laughed, then off he went back to the Senior Center. Next thing I know, your Dad is back at the bank walking up to my drive-thru window with something in his hand, telling me Terri said to give this to you. I open the drawer at the drive-thru and he sends in this pamphlet. I looked at it and then looked out the window at him he stands there just laughing. He had gone to the Senior Center and only shared with Terri Kline that I hit him with the bank bag and had asked her for an Elder Abuse pamphlet. You should have seen his face, your Dad was so proud of himself for pulling a joke on me. I loved his ornery sense of humor, probably because I have an ornery sense of humor as well. It always put a smile on our faces to see him walk into the bank. We knew we were going to laugh when he was around with a joke or two or something funny he had up his sleeve.
So, you can only imagine how my heart broke when I received a message from Terri this morning about the loss of your Dad. Death, unfortunately, is one of those times when nothing said makes it any easier. Please know that we are keeping all of you in our hearts and prayers. Remember, God never gives us more than we can handle. I would absolutely love to be at the funeral home in person sharing my condolences with you and paying my respects to my dear friend, your Dad, if not for this social distancing quarantine. Please stay safe and healthy. God Bless!
My Sincerest Condolences,
Stephanie Allen-Hetrick

Darrell was one of the most thoughtful men I have ever known. He was always there to lend a helpful hand or give advice during my tenure as coordinator of the Windsor Senior Center and there, I'm happy to say, he became a great friend.
His joking nature will be missed by many. One of my favorites was how he called my grandson, Dayton the "Cinncinnati Kid."
Until we meet again...
