Obituary of Ron Shulfer

Ron Shulfer, 84, of Windsor, Missouri, died early Friday morning, May 29, 2020, at his home. Ron was born March 31, 1936, in Woodstock, Illinois, the son of Henry Edwin Shulfer and Marie Dorothy (Zimmerman) Shulfer. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Nancy Lee Shulfer. Ron served in the United States Air Force as a B52 engine mechanic. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Ron met his wife Nancy whom he married on November 25, 1961, at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church, Algonquin, IL. He worked as a self-employed carpenter contractor and built both the home his children grew up in and the home he and his wife retired in. After retirement, Ron enjoyed making and fixing things as well as tinkering in his shop. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Windsor, a Third Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and also a member of the American Legion, Post 82. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife enjoyed relaxing and experiencing nature from their back porch, as well as traveling and camping in their RV with the Good Sam Roadrunner’s RV Chapter for many years. In addition to his wife Nancy, survivors include five children, Valerie Shulfer, Belton, MO, Laurie Osness (Jim), Woodstock, IL, Cynthia De La Fuente (Joe), Bullhead City, AZ, Victoria Olson (Jim Metallo), Island Lake, IL, and Allen Shulfer (Joyce), Olathe, KS; nine grandchildren, Katie Orndahl, Christine Orndahl, Cara Orndahl, Brady Olson, Conner Olson, Megan Shulfer, Mitch Shulfer, Sofia Shulfer, and Simon Shulfer; three step-grandchildren, Meghan Fuentes, Marissa Holm, and Morgan Osness; several step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra Wollert and two brothers, John Shulfer and Tom Shulfer, all of Woodstock, IL; an uncle, Stanley Shulfer; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Dolores (Dody) Merriott. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 4, 2020, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Windsor, with Father Jim Taranto, Celebrant. The family will receive friends before the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church, with social distancing observed and masks required (masks will be provided or wear your own). Funeral Mass will be streamed live from Ron’s Tribute Page at www.hadleyfuneralhome.com. A final celebration of Ron’s life will be held in Woodstock, IL, his final resting place will be at Calvary Cemetery in Woodstock, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making contributions to Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research, St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), or Crossroads Hospice in care of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor.
