Obituary of Richard H. Rice

Richard H. Rice, 88, of Windsor, Missouri, died Sunday afternoon, October 25, 2020, at Windsor Healthcare & Rehabilitation. He was born November 26, 1931, near LaMonte, Mo., the son of Forrest Roscoe Rice and Lena Lou (Rabourn) Rice. On August 16, 1958, he married Wanalene Marion Sumners in Kansas City, Mo., and she survives of the home. Richard attended Bryson School near Windsor and began farming at a young age. He worked the wheat harvest in Kansas as a young man and had a dozier business with his brother Jay for a time. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1952 and served during the Korean War. Farming would remain his life-long passion and he continued to work on the family farm as long as his health allowed. He enjoyed time in his shop and would fix and engineer each piece of equipment to his needs. He enjoyed mornings at the coffee shop, his faithful companion Lucky, and was a member of the Windsor United Methodist Church. Survivors include 3 children, Rhonda Scott (Dennis), Windsor, Mo., Brenda Thompson (Lou), Wentzville, Mo., Michael Rice (Teresa), Windsor, Mo.; 5 grandchildren, Sarah Formen, Travis Scott, Trenton Scott (Tiffani), Peyton Rice, and Megan Rice; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jay F. Rice and his wife Marjorie. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2020, at the Windsor United Methodist Church with Pastor Pete Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. Masks are requested. The family suggests contributions to the Windsor United Methodist Church or the Laurel Oak Cemetery and may be left in care of the funeral home.
