Obituary of Charla (Riley) Tallent

Charla (Riley) Tallent, 62, of Sedalia, Missouri, died Wednesday evening, December 9, 2020, at her home. She was born November 6, 1958, in Windsor, Mo., the daughter of Charles Leslie Riley Jr. and Claudia Joyce (Foose) Riley. On August 28, 2015, she married Thomas “Tee” Tallent at Assembly of God of Windsor and he survives of the home. Charla graduated from Green Ridge High School and obtained a clerical degree from State Fair Community College in Sedalia. She worked at the International Shoe Factory in Windsor and then for several banks in the Sedalia area. She enjoyed crocheting. Her happy personality shone through her enjoyment of dancing, wearing her “bling” in her favorite color purple, and her fancy artwork on her fingernail polish. When they were little, she loved waking her kids up to Lion King’s “Hakuna Matata” and starting their day with thoughts of “no worries.” Her positive outlook continued after her ovarian cancer diagnosis and her testimony of “God and I’ve got this” was an encouragement to her family, doctors, and caregivers. Charla and her mother Joyce shared a special bond with Joyce having seen her curly haired daughter in a dream at the age of 11, long before Charla was born. She was a member of the Assembly of God of Windsor. In addition to her husband Thomas, survivors include her mother, Joyce Talley, Independence, Mo.; a daughter Crissi Whitson, Cadiz, Kentucky; 3 sons, Douglas Garren Jr., Leeton, Mo., Brandon Garren, Warrensburg, Mo., and William Garren, Bronte, Texas; 2 step-daughters, Janie and Katie; 14 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter on the way; a brother, Charles Riley III (Debra), Windsor; 3 sisters, Sandra Riley (John H. Smith), Nancy Smith (John E.), and Sunni Johnson, all of Windsor, Mo.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her father. A Celebration of Life for Charla will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Assembly of God of Windsor. A memorial has been established to help with funeral expenses and contributions may be left in care of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor.
