Obituary of Vaughn G. Snelling
Vaughn G. Snelling of Windsor, Mo, formerly of Clinton, Mo passed away early Friday morning, December 18, 2020 at Country Club Care Center, Warrensburg, Mo. due to complications associated with Covid-19. Vaughn was born June 19, 1944, in Buckner, Mo. the son of William Vaughn Snelling and Ursula B. (Galloway) Snelling. On April 13, 1972 Vaughn married Thelma Jean Quigley who preceded him in death April 30, 2007. Vaughn served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. In January 1970, Vaughn re-enlisted in the United States Army and soon became a Sargent. He was sent back to Vietnam and was wounded by shrapnel from an RPG. Vaughn was a purple heart recipient. Due to his injuries, he was permanently retired from the United States Army due to his physical disability. Vaughn worked at the International Shoe Factory in Windsor before moving to Clinton. While living in Clinton he worked as a parts manager at the former Staten Chevrolet for many years and later he worked for Gregg Smith Ford before retiring. Vaughn enjoyed spending time with his family, relaxing, and having a cold Coors. Survivors include a daughter, Debra K. Carr (Calvin), Branson, Mo; a son, Tony L. Massey (Helen) Sedalia, Mo; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Soard, Nicholas Soard, Anthony Massey, and Jessica Price; a sister, Gladys Parmalee, Osceola, Mo; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Thelma, he was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Nancy Snelling Nichols, and 3 nephews, Duane Nichols, Daniel Nichols, Raymond Parmalee, and Jim Quigley. Interment at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, is planned for a later date. The family suggest contributions to Wreaths Across America and may be left in care of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor.
