Obituary of Melissa Stevens

Melissa Stevens of Windsor, Missouri, died peacefully in Danny’s arms at 9:45 p.m., Saturday evening, January 2, 2021 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Mo. She was born February 4, 1963 in Windsor, the daughter of Charles Edward Stevens and Jane Bullard Stevens. She graduated from Windsor High School in 1981. She excelled in track and with her teammates in basketball, softball as a catcher and tennis. She loved to read, especially old books, take long walks in the woods with Danny, perhaps finding an arrowhead or mushroom. Her greatest pleasure was to cook, care for and protect her family, friends, pets, and wildlife, all of whom she called her people. She had a beautiful smile, sparkling eyes, and a joyful laugh. She had the gift to listen. Strangers often would pour out their troubles, hurts and fears to her and she would take them all in. She sacrificed for others and carried a deep sorrow for a troubled world, the abuse of nature and the circle of life. Her love of animals led her to work for veterinary practices in Warsaw and on St. Croix, Virgin Islands. Dogs were a lifelong passion. She worked alongside her partner of 39 years and lovingly supported all that he did. She is survived by Daniel L., (Danny) Beck and his mother, Charlene, of the home, a sister, Tracey Schlichte (Ron), Osceola, Iowa; she treasured a brief time she was able to spend with her nephews, David, Jack and her niece Abbie, hoping she passed on to them her essence. She was proceeded in passing by a sister Gloria who passed at birth, her parents, father in love, Richard Beck, and to her greatest sorrow a son to be named Tucker Charles by miscarriage. Bee free, bee safe, bee you my love. We plan a celebration of life for Melissa in the spring. A time of rebirth, of sweet sights and smells. A time she can wash through us as a warm gentle breeze. Peace
