Obituary of Jack Swigert

Jack Swigert, 90, of Windsor, Missouri, died early Saturday morning, February 20, 2021, in Windsor. He was born March 4, 1930, in Leeton, Mo., on the family farm, the son of Willis Allyn Swigert and Mary Eliza McIntire. On November 25, 1954, he married Thelma Lucile Paxton at the United Methodist Church in Leeton. She preceded him in death on July 21, 2019. Jack began working on the family farm at a young age. After graduation from Leeton High School, he served his country in the United States Air Force. After the family moved to Windsor in 1964, he owned and operated the Windsor Standard Oil Station for a time, was a feed salesman for PayWay/Central Soya company, and was a car salesman at the Walker Ford and Ferguson Chevrolet dealerships in Windsor. He then worked at the Leeton Elevator for many years until retirement. Jack drove a school bus for the Windsor School District and enjoyed not only the daily bus route where he was fondly known by the kids as “Grandpa Jack,” but the many ball game trips. His farming roots never left him. He loved farm machinery and always owned a tractor. He enjoyed car shows, family camping trips, and playing pitch, marbles, and dominoes. But his favorite activity was being able to attend sporting events of his children, grandchildren, and then great grandchildren. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Windsor, and had served on the Windsor School Board for many years. Survivors include 3 children, Steve (Vicki) Swigert, Piedmont, Okla.; Marilyn (David) Norfleet, Windsor, Mo.; and Scott (Kristen) Swigert, Windsor, Mo.; 7 grandchildren, Jonathan (Erin) Norfleet, Whitney (Zack) Bowers, Kacey (Mike) Verderaime, Allyson (Josh) Weitzel, Kimberly (Rusty) Baxter, Makayla Swigert, and Barr Swigert; 12 great-grandchildren, Olsyn, Paxton, Nash, Olivia, Indiana, Rian, Evyn, Henley, Harper, Salvatore, Enzo, and Giovanni; a sister-in-law, Venita Houk, Leeton, Mo.; 2 brothers-in-law, Larry Paxton, and Gary Womble, both of Windsor, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his wife Thelma, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jean Wallace and her husband Bill, and Ruth Smith and her husband Cy; two sisters-in-law, Toni Paxton and Kay Womble; and a brother-in-law, Bob Houk. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Rev. Justin Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friends may sign the book and pay their respects beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Masks are required for the visitation and service. A recording of Jack’s service will be available for viewing the day following his service on his Tribute Page at www.hadleyfuneralhome.com. The family suggests contributions to the Swigert Family International Agriculture Scholarship (checks payable to Jack Swigert Memorial) or to Calvary Baptist Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.
