Obituary of Shirley (Gregory) Weatherby

Shirley (Gregory) Weatherby, 79, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Sunday morning, August 22, 2021, at her home near Warrensburg. She was born March 19, 1942, in Windsor, Mo., the daughter of James “Jim” Gregory and Grace Ellen (Land) Gregory. On December 22, 1972, she married Terry Lynn Weatherby and he survives of the home. Shirley graduated from Green Ridge School. She and Terry lived in the Kansas City area for several years. Her full-time job was wife and mother to their daughter, Penny, but she occasionally worked outside the home. After moving back to the Warrensburg area, she enjoyed helping Terry work at Parkview Garden Apartments. She liked flowers and gardening but being “Nanny” to her family meant everything to her. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her dog, Luke, was treated just like a member of the family. In addition to husband Terry, survivors include a daughter, Penny Weatherby, Warrensburg, Mo.; 4 grandchildren, Tessa Wentworth, Hayley Wentworth, Sara Walker and Christopher Walker; 2 great-grandchildren, Dakota Lynn Pugh and Braxton Ray; and a great-grandson on the way, Bentley Lee Woodrome; 2 brothers, James “Sonnie” Gregory, Warrensburg, Mo., and Harold Gregory, Knob Noster, Mo.; a “sister” Zelma Gregory, Cherokee Village, Arkansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a stepdaughter, Terri Lynn Walker; 3 brothers, Kenneth Gregory Sr., Donald “Dude” Gregory, and Larry Dean Gregory; 3 sisters, Francis Gregory, Mary Ellen Taylor, and Lillian “Wig” Zumalt; and a “sister” Dorothy Gregory. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Shirley Weatherby Memorial Fund has been established in her memory to help families in need and contributions may be left in care of the funeral home.
