Obituary of Dean Fockler

Dean Fockler, 81, of Jefferson City, Mo., formerly of Windsor, Mo., died Wednesday evening, September 1, 2021, at StoneBridge Villa Marie in Jefferson City. He was born February 19, 1940, in Windsor, Mo., the son of Luther Hirham Fockler and Genevieve Gwendolyn (Dickey) Fockler. On September 25, 1960, he married Sharon Louise Buell at the First Christian Church in Windsor and she survives of the home. Dean’s work in grocery stores started in his teen years. He worked for Mrs. Milam’s store in Windsor and delivered groceries on his bicycle. He continued with Gerbes Super Markets, working in several of their locations, including Windsor and Jefferson City. He and Sharon owned and operated Fockler’s Ben Franklin in Windsor for 10 years. He was involved with his children’s sporting events. He was a Boy Scout leader and helped three special needs scout members in Jefferson City become Eagle Scouts. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood carving and raised pheasant and quail after retirement. He was a member and Deacon of the First Christian Church in Jefferson City. Laughter was a big part of Dean’s life. He enjoyed telling family stories and always seemed to turn ordinary events into an adventure with an unlikely ending. He was kind and caring and was always looking for ways to help others. In addition to his wife Sharon, survivors include 3 children, Jodean Foster (Jerry), Jefferson City, Mo., Shane Fockler (Tobi), Sedalia, Mo., and Clint Fockler (Jill), Westerville, Ohio; 7 grandchildren, Jake Foster, Kurt Foster (Susie), Jenna Cline (Adam), Samantha Lambert (Tyler), Sydney Fockler, Matthew Fockler, and Emily Fockler; 2 great-grandchildren, Austin Cline and Rory Cline; a brother, Dale Fockler (Shirley), Wichita, Kansas; a brother-in-law, Darrell Buell (Marge), and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Rhonda Coleman. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 5, 2021, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Pastor Pete Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to Compassus Hospice in Jefferson City and contributions may be left in care of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor.
