Obituary of Marie Huggins
Marie Elizabeth Huggins, 76, of Windsor, Missouri, formerly of South Royalton, Vermont, and longtime resident of Richmond VA, went to her heavenly home Thursday morning, October 14, 2021, after a long fight with lung disease. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born in Randolph, Vermont on March 17, 1945, the daughter of George Mason Dodge and Arlene Catherine (Morrill) Dodge. Her heart strings were always attached to God and Vermont. Marie attended South Royalton High School where she played basketball, was in the band and chorus, and participated in plays and all activities available. She graduated in June, 1963, and left in September for Boston to attend Burdett College. While attending college she met the love of her life, Dale Huggins, who was in the United States Coast Guard. While she was still in school, they attended church and took in many Red Sox games. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and graduated in 1965 with a business degree. Dale and Marie were married on December 11, 1965. Dale’s assignment with the Coast Guard took them to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin where they made their first home. In June of 1966, they were stationed in New Hampshire and then Washington DC in January of 1967. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Cimberlee Marie, on December 2, 1968, and a son, Clinton Dale, on March 9, 1971. 1981 was an eventful and joyful year as the family first adopted Marie’s niece, Terri P. Dodge, then moved to Richmond VA where the final addition to the family, George Francis was born on August 28. Marie started a career in retail working for Giant Foods. After marriage, she worked as a bartender and in food service at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico for several years. She did babysitting while her children were young but then worked as a department manager for Walmart in Richmond for over 25 years before retiring in 2019. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter and enjoyed camping and road trips and watching wildlife and feeding the birds. She was a good cook and was the team mother with the most enthusiasm who always hosted the team slumber parties. She especially enjoyed visiting her Grandson, Clinton Jr, in Florida where they walked on the beach and fished. Everyone was special to Marie. She was a friend to all and enjoyed visiting with people and getting to know them. She was a faithful member of River Road United Methodist Church in Richmond, Virginia. Dale and Marie moved to Missouri in October, 2020. In addition to her husband Dale of the home, survivors include a daughter Cimberlee Mothersbaugh (Michael), Windsor, Mo.; 2 sons, Clinton Huggins, Sr. (Leann Pennington), Palm Coast, Florida, and George Huggins (Perkins Morgan), Goochland, Va.; a grandson, Clinton Dale Huggins, Jr., who was born July 18, 2005; a brother, Harry Dodge, South Royalton, Vt.; an aunt, Polly Morrill, Sharon, Vt.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Theodore Dodge and Richard Dodge. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at the Branch View Cemetery, South Royalton, Vt., with Pastor Jim Proctor officiating. The family suggests contributions in Marie’s memory to the Windsor Ministerial Alliance in care of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor.
