Obituary of Dorothy "Dot" Hollenbeck

Dorothy “Dot” Hollenbeck, 92, of Green Ridge, Missouri, died Thursday morning, November 18, 2021, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia, Mo. She was born January 17, 1929, in Green Ridge, Mo., the daughter of Wilfred Flesher “Tuck” Hollenbeck and Edna Mae (Arnold) Hollenbeck. She was a 1947 graduate of Green Ridge High School and then attended Central Missouri State College from 1947 to 1952. During her first two years of college, she was a one-room schoolhouse teacher at Manila near Green Ridge. After earning a bachelor’s degree in education from CMSC, she earned a master’s degree from University of Colorado Boulder. She taught high school physical education for several years in the Grandview school district and moved to Florissant, Mo., and finished out her teaching career at McCluer High School. Dot took advantage of the summer teaching break and worked picking peaches while living in Colorado, worked at Knob Noster State Park summer camps, helped with 4-H clubs, and was a camp nurse. Putting out a big garden, keeping chickens and mowing the grass was always part of her summer routine. She was an active member of the Green Ridge Baptist Church and enjoyed making flower arrangements for the sanctuary. She was also a member of the Green Ridge Garden Club and the Green Ridge High School Alumni Association. Survivors include her sister, Mildred Sloan (Daryl), Clinton, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Doris Hollenbeck, Windsor, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gene Hollenbeck. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Rev. Ted Frances officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Private family burial will be in the Green Ridge Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Green Ridge Baptist Church or the Show Me Christian Youth Home in care of the funeral home.
