Obituary of Dick York

Richard L. “Dick” York, 77, of Windsor, Missouri, died Monday morning, January 3, 2022, at Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg, Mo. He was born April 12, 1944 in Bethany, Mo., the son of James Herschel York and Evea Eleanor (Blanton) York. On July 11, 1994, he married Loretta Susan Morarity in Warsaw, Mo., and she survives of the home. Dick served in the United States Navy for 22 years. He was a machinist on several naval aircraft carriers and submarines. He also worked as a Navy recruiter in Sedalia. Following his military service, he worked at the grocery store in Stover, then drove a truck for Heimsoth Distributing in Cole Camp and then worked at G & L Liquor in Windsor for a short time. He was the Commander of the American Legion Post 82 in Windsor for 5 years. In addition to his wife, survivors include 2 step-sons, Jay Underwood, Windsor, Mo., and Barry Underwood, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; a step-daughter, Susan Underwod, Windsor, Mo.; 2 step-grandchildren, Blake Underwood and Kelsy Hampton; an aunt, Maxine Hensley, Sun City, Arizona; a brother-in-law, Charles Morarity, Cole Camp, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Betty Duke, Lewisburg, Kansas; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, James York Jr., William “Bill” York, and Charles York; 2 sisters, Jessie Slawson and Hazel Soap; a brother-in-law, James Morarity, Jr.; and 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Anne Willard and Arlene Goldsmith. Graveside funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. Military Honors will be observed. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. The family suggests contributions to Disabled American Veterans in care of the funeral home.
