Obituary of Melvin Leverich

Melvin K. Leverich, 91, of Windsor, Missouri, died early Tuesday morning, March 29, 2022, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton. He was born October 31, 1930, in Vernon County, Missouri, near Dederick, the son of Leland Frank Leverich and Susan Mabel (Elliott) Leverich. On December 31, 1955, he married Anita Wynona Gilpin in Stockton, Mo., and she preceded him in death in August of 1979. On April 5, 1981, he married Donna Mae Scott at the First Baptist Church, Windsor. Melvin grew up in the El Dorado Springs area and attended Dederick Christian Church where he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized. After high school, Melvin served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. Following his service, he worked as a meat cutter for Tufts grocery store in El Dorado Springs. After attending meat cutting school in Ohio, he worked for Food Town Grocery Stores for several years at various locations. Through the Civil Service he began working at the Richards-Gebaur Commissary and he and his family resided in the Belton/Grandview area for 12 years. He was a faithful Christian and an active member, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Belton Free Will Baptist Church. A transfer to Whiteman Air Force Base in 1978 brought Melvin and family to Windsor. He was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church. He taught an adult Sunday School class for many years and served on various committees of the church. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying mysteries and Westerns. He loved to fish, work puzzles, and mow the lawn. He worked on lawn mowers in his spare time and volunteered as a local election official. In addition to his wife Donna, survivors include a daughter, Melody Leverich, Anderson, Mo.; a son, Johnathan Leverich (Kristy Collins), Sedalia, Mo.; a step-grandson, Alex Collins; a brother-in-law, Howard Gilpin, El Dorado Springs, Mo.; 2 sisters-in-law, Rita Gilpin, Dederick, Mo., and Jean Williams (Earl), Sedalia, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews including a niece Connie Denny (Phil), Blue Springs, Mo.; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his wife Anita, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marvel Caldwell; and a special uncle and aunt, Amos and Bernice Eastman. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Pastor Mike Brown officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery near El Dorado Springs, Mo. The family will receive friends before the service from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for missions.
