Obituary of Ralph Suman

Please share a memory of Ralph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ralph Marian Suman, 84, of Windsor, Missouri, died early Sunday morning, September 11, 2022, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, Mo. He was born January 19, 1938, in Highmore, South Dakota, the son of Russel Urdale Suman and Helen Julia (Ronnefeldt) Suman. Ralph was a talented mechanic and machinist. He moved to Kansas City with his parents as a young man and owned and operated Suman Automotive in Kansas City, Kansas for many years. Ralph loved racing and was well known at the I-70 and Lakeside Speedways for building winning motors and coaching successful drivers. In an interview with the Kansas City Star, he said “the engine just has to be right, and the secret is getting it to last the entire race.” His proudest accomplishment was building a 1965 Plymouth Barracuda named Pandemonium V for the well-known drag racing team of Bob and Shirley Sullivan. It was the first successful Funny Car in history. Ralph ultimately relocated to Windsor, Missouri, and worked for Meyer Metalcraft for over 10 years before retirement. He enjoyed deer hunting and working on his farm. He also enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and his favorite player, Patrick Mahomes. Survivors include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is also survived by dear friends who were like family to him, Oscar and Carol Lloyd and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Roger Suman and Glenn Suman; and 2 sisters, Mavis Suman and Marilyn Heuton. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2022, at the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. Contributions are suggested to Farrington Park care of the funeral home.
