Obituary of Jeanette Lawson

Jeanette Lawson, 59, of Windsor, Missouri died unexpectedly Saturday, October 17, 2015, as the result of a motorcycle accident near Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born March 4, 1956, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Thomas James Rockey and Esther Elizabeth (Davidson) Rockey. On July 25, 1987, in Lexington, Mo., she married Scott Allen Lawson and he survives of the home. After graduation from the University of Missouri - Kansas City with a Bachelor of Arts - Education degree, Jeanette began her career in education as a math teacher in the school districts of Ridgeway, Mo., and Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo. After moving to Windsor, she continued teaching math at Windsor High School for 14 years. During this time, she obtained her Master of Education degree from William Woods University. She was the Calhoun High School Principal for 6 years, retiring in 2014. Jeanette was also the co-owner and operator of the Windsor Crossroads Motel with her husband and daughters. She had been a member of the Civil Air Patrol since the age of 13, achieving the rank of Colonel. Jeanette held memberships with the Missouri State Teachers Association and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Windsor, and was a Sunday School teacher and member of the church choir. She was also a Vacation Bible School teacher, member of the Youth Leadership Team and volunteered in many other ways at the church. Young people were important to Jeanette and she always found a way to participate and help with activities like the Windsor High School Music Boosters Club and various other organizations of the schools in which she worked. Jeanette enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and reading and had recently become a member of the Wild Rhino Motorcycle Club with her husband. She enjoyed their trips and the many friendships they made with other riders. She was a thoughtful and caring person, always willing to lend a helping hand. But the greatest joy of her life was her family. She loved spending time with her daughters and planned special outings with them on a regular basis. In addition to her husband Scott, survivors include two daughters, Katherine “Kate” Lawson and Sara Lawson, both of Windsor; her father, Thomas “Tom” Rockey, Raytown, Mo.; and a brother, John Rockey, Raytown, Mo. She was preceded in death by her mother; a brother, Thomas James Rockey II; and a sister, Sheila Elizabeth Rockey. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015, at the First Baptist Church, Windsor with Rev. Doug Hall officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. Burial will be in the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas at a later date. The family suggests contributions to the Windsor High School Master Scholarship Endowment Fund (WHS MSEF) to establish a scholarship in Jeanette’s memory and contributions may be left in care of the funeral home.
